When you hear the name Serena Williams, what do you think of? A strong feminist figure? A world-renowned tennis player? A mom? Serena Williams is all this and more. A lot of us know that she’s won 23 grand slam titles and she’s a former No. 1 in women’s singles tennis. But you may be more similar to her than you think. Born as the youngest of 5 sisters, her main coach was her dad. Williams lived in 3 different places as a young girl, even making the move from California to Florida, all the way across the U. S.! She started playing tennis at age 3. But, as her career grew, Williams had to deal with racism from other kid’s parents at tournaments. In no way was it an easy ride to fame, trying to balance tennis with just being a normal kid, whilst living in an always bustling house. But Williams persevered, and this allowed her to go on to become arguably one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

“When you lose you get up, you make it better, you try again.”
“If anything, I think losing makes me even more motivated.”

“I’ve had to learn to fight all my life- got to learn to keep smiling. If you smile, things will work out.”
