Dear Abby,
I was recently absent from school for a few days. I didn’t realize how much was going on then, or I would have tried to tough it out, despite how sick I was. Anyway, I now have a ton of homework and classwork to do in a short period of time, since the quarter ends soon. What can I do to try and get all this done?

Dear Stressed Out,
That’s a common problem for students who are gone from school on important days. I suggest either emailing your teachers or emailing them yourself. Either way, the email should explain why you couldn’t come to school, and ask for extensions for assignments you missed, or to be excused from some of them. You could also talk to your teachers in person and see what they think. If you can’t get any extensions for your assignments, and your teachers can’t excuse you from them, I would suggest learning some time management. Start your homework the minute you get home from school (after you get a snack or do whatever you have to do) and don’t stop until you’ve finished what you have to for the next day. Also, don’t ignore the big things until the moment they’re due. If you have a big paper due Friday, work on it a little each night, and have it done by then so you don’t have to worry about it. If you need to, cancel an after-school activity to do your homework instead. Hope these tips help!
