Resistance: A Story of the Jewish Who Refused to Succumb

When people think of World War II, they usually think of the Holocaust, and death camps. They probably don’t know about the Jewish resistance groups, especially in Poland, that stood up against the Nazi occupiers. These groups saved lives and slowed the Nazis down one raid, bombing, or smuggling trip at a time.
Resistance is a thrilling novel written by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer A. Nielsen. It is about Chaya, a 16-year-old Jewish girl living during the Nazi occupation of Poland. She finds herself joining Akiva (a Jewish resistance group), and taking up courier work, which involves smuggling food, papers, and weapons into the Jewish ghettos - a task she would quickly be killed by the Nazis for taking part in if discovered. Soon Chaya finds herself participating in raids of Nazi supplies and grenading Nazi-filled buildings - even more dangerous missions. Chaya must learn to survive against the odds, fool the Nazis, and keep everyone she can alive as her challenges keep mounting.
This story of the Jewish resistance and being a courier is full of action, danger, and suspense. It is great for those who like historical fiction - especially books about World War II and other novels by Jennifer A. Nielsen, such as A Night Divided and Words on Fire. It also brings an important part of World War II into more light, and shows that the Jewish people DID put up a fight. Although the resistance groups didn’t stop the Nazis completely they did slow them down quite a bit.
