What do you think of when you hear the term “Most Exceptional Teacher”? Maybe someone who cares for their students even outside of school, someone who encourages kids to attend, someone who can make their day. According to the UN’s official award system, Ranjitsinh Disale checks all of these boxes.
As you probably can assume, this award is an incredible honor, one that you may think a lot deserve. Ranjitsinh Disale is a third and fourth grade teacher from Paritewadi, India. Known for helping students (especially girls) get through and graduate, he has made such a big impact on so many kids. He helped get justice for young girls who were marrying too young, provided for low income families in his village, and even learned other languages just to communicate with kids' parents to help them.
He has affected so many kids’ lives for the better, even innovating and creating new technology for them to use. He proposed the idea of QR-coded textbooks to their government, and they accepted the offer and put it into place. This means the students could hear him teach the lesson while reading, and come back to it to absorb the information more. Plus, he worked out a way to use skype to connect with people all around the world and have his students learn different perspectives. This gave them insight and experience on life outside of where they lived. He knows how to teach kids in a way they will absorb it and care about it.
Out of 12,000 teachers, Disale won one of the most honorable prizes he could, getting a whole 1 million dollars from it. From caring until the very end to being as creative as he could, he deserved it.
