How People Are Stepping Up To Help Texans During Crisis

Texas is known for having warm, even sweltering, temperatures in summer and winter, so it came as a huge surprise when Houston was measured at 13 degrees last Saturday. In addition to freezing temperatures, power outages (the state's power grid completely failed), snow, water shortages, and gas shortages have engulfed the state. However, many kind people are stepping up to help each other out.
Beyonce gave cash relief grants of $1000 by working with businesses and nonprofits, and a mattress company opened their store to those without a home or bed to sleep on. Colt McCoy, a Texan athlete, worked to give out barbecue, tacos, water, and gift cards to students at his Alma Mater. Those who would have normally come to Texas on vacation are now using it as an opportunity to help out. Diplo (dance music producer), was thanked by City Councilwoman Natasha Harper Madison for donating over 100 pizzas.
Even across the sea, people are assisting. The duke and duchess of Sussex (England) bought a new roof for Dallas’s Genesis Women’s shelter. Some companies pitched in as well, and when a San Antonio store lost power, leaving customers unable to pay, the store let them take their groceries home for free. In addition, mutual aid organizations pitched in to help. One collected laundry for those without power, while another provided hot food. In San Antonio, Para Mi Gente distributed over $32,000 to 232 families in need. ATV enthusiasts distributed food and checked on older citizens, and a man from Austin rescued about 500 stranded drivers with his Chevrolet Silverado.
In conclusion, though I only mentioned a few of the amazing people who helped out, I at least gave a rough understanding of the togetherness that occurred. From rescuing motorists to giving people food, the actions to help citizens in need are invaluable.
