Cats vs. Dogs

I firmly believe that dogs are superior to cats. If you agree and are a dog person, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this! If you love cats, now would be a good time to stop reading. Cats are less intelligent, sort of creepy, and are less loyal. I know that there are good cats out there, but I have to say that I like dogs more. Many qualities attributed to cats are actually more evident in dogs. In my experience dogs are more loyal, more caring, and smarter. Again, I know these qualities are not true for all dogs, but many of them fit into these categories. Cats, altogether, are worse than dogs.
Intelligence is something that comes up a lot in these pet arguments. People generally end up with the conclusion that cats are smarter unless you are in one of those rare cases where a gerbil lover gets the last word. However, scientists have concluded that dogs are indeed more intelligent than cats. Dogs have, as National Geographic put it, “about twice the number of neurons in their cerebral cortexes than what cats have, which suggests they could be about twice as intelligent.” While it is debated whether this means they actually are smarter, I believe that it probably does give them an advantage in the smarts category.
One thing that is very heavily debated is loyalty. It is also something that many pet owners get defensive about, so remember that I am not saying all cats and dogs are like this. Dogs have been with humans for 20-40 thousand years, whereas cats have only been domesticated for around 10 thousand. This probably means that dogs have bonded much more with humans than cats have. I have to say, I wonder how they domesticated cats. Were they petting tigers or something?
You know how there is that cliche of cats eating rodents? Well, there isn’t a cliche of dogs eating cute little fuzzy animals for a reason. Cats are terrifying! I think that the majority of dogs are better than most cats. Cats are scarier, less smart, and less loyal. If you are a cat owner reading this, I don’t intend to offend you and I can’t stress it enough that I do not mean all cats. I’m also very biased as a dog owner. To summarize, I believe cats are worse than dogs in terms of smarts, loyalty, and scariness.
