Art Club: Explore Your Inner Picasso From Your computer

The Eastern Art Club is a very welcoming and interesting club where you can explore your inner Picasso.
At the group’s most recent meeting on Thursday, there were about a half-dozen students present and Ms. Hill, the club’s advisor, started out with an emotional check in and asked people to type in the Zoom chat how they felt coming into Art Club today. While the messages were sent to her privately, she commented that everyone seemed to be in good spirits coming back from the holiday break.
Earlier in the semester, the students created self portrait line drawings and have made snowflakes. But given that all clubs are virtual right now and recognizing that many students do not have access to a lot of art supplies at home, Ms. Hill has put a lot of emphasis on digital art that you can create from your computer.
The day’s project was on mandalas. Mandalas, “circle” in Sanskrit, are a complex geometric design that holds a special significance in Hinduism and Buddhism. In some traditional cultures, they are said to represent different parts of the universe and are used to aid in mediation. Today mandalas are very trendy in coloring pages that many people use to de-stress and you can find whole books of mandalas on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
In Art Club, Ms. Hill showed the students two Web sites - Kaleidoscope Painter https://permadi.com/java/spaint/spaint.html and Mandala Maker http://mandalamaker.online/ - where you can make your own mandalas. There was a lot of quiet time while students were focusing on their art. Then near the end of the class they shared their creations.
This is one above is one of my favorites. The final projects were so cool that after the club was over I spent some time making a few of my own and I have to admit it was very fun.
Art Club meets Thursdays 3:30-4:30 p.m. and is advised by Ms. Judea Hill [email protected].
